Sometimes you get a little tired of meeting up at the same old watering hole, and you want to try something different. Next time you’re looking to shake up the routine, consider one of Atlanta’s hookah bars. While admittedly not for everyone, it’s definitely an experience that you have to try out to see if it is something you’d enjoy. The lush lounges can make for an exotic and refreshing change of atmosphere.

Divan Hookah Lounge has been open for nine years, making it one of Atlanta’s most established hookah bars. It is a great spot for a fun date night, with richly flavored Persian and Mediterranean food using high-quality local ingredients. Stop in with your friends for happy hour from 6 to 7:30 p.m., when all hookahs are 50 percent off. Flavors range from chocolate mint to margarita. The lounge atmosphere is both comfortable and intimate, so you can really make a connection with your date while enjoying a different activity.

House of Hookah is the hookah bar for Atlanta’s hip hop set. It’s not terribly fancy, but it has more of a relaxed living room vibe. Expect chilled out music that allows you to chat with your friends. This is definitely more of a group gathering spot than a date night option. Rumor has it you may even see Shaquille O’Neal, as he has been known to frequent this spot. Given the hoops star’s size, it probably shouldn’t be too difficult to find him if he is there.

Istanblue

Istanblue is the hookah bar you wouldn’t be embarrassed to show off to clients or family. Naturally, the pristine environment comes with a higher price tag, but that also makes it one of the better choices to impress a date. This Buckhead spot has plenty of Turkish food options for dinner. However, it really comes alive as a late-night upscale club. You’ll want to check first with your crowd to make sure everyone is up for the hookah experience, but if they are interested in a different evening out, this could be a great event.
